WHAT IS THE SPINA SYSTEM™?
IDD Therapy® is the World’s Most Advanced Non-Surgical treatment for low back conditions and the Spina System™ is the only device certified to administer IDD Therapy® (INTERVERTEBRAL DIFFERENTIAL DYNAMICS). It is a mechanized, high tech pain reduction and healing system that was developed after many years of research and development by a team of physicians, including a renowned neurosurgeon, and bioengineers. The Accu-SPINA® offers an advanced technique to doctors for non-invasive treatment of the spine. The Spina System™ is manufactured by North American Medical Corporation with advanced technology to achieve spinal decompression.
NOTE: The Accu-SPINA® was designed to integrate and accept the most advanced cervical decompression accessory. This accessory has undergone nearly a full year beta program for practical, in-the-field analysis by participating physicians nationwide.
2. HOW DOES IDD Therapy® WORK?
IDD Therapy® is an advanced, computer-directed physical modality. IDD Therapy® is achieved by creating up to 200 mm of negative intradiscal pressure, retracting the herniation and healing the damaged area. To promote healing and relax the patient, the Spina System is equipped with a sound system and headphones, so the patient may enjoy the music of his/her choice. Additionally, the system has a special Nira blue light to bathe the patient, which also promotes relaxation. Proprioceptor response is minimized giving patients better treatment outcomes.
3. HOW DOES THE SPINA SYSTEM™ WORK?
Patients are fitted with unique pelvic and torso harnesses. They then step on to the loading platform where they are reclined to the supine position. For Lumbar Decompression, the harnesses are connected to both the end of the table and decompression head respectively. Arm supports are placed in the armpit region immobilizing the upper torso. A special air bladder located in the pelvic harness is inflated creating a fulcrum, thus focusing treatment to the LI to L5 region. The pelvic harness is attached to the decompression head, which is elevated 10 to 25 degrees above the patient. The combination of angle of pull and air bladder create a fulcrum pinpointing treatment to the LI to L5 region. The system is quickly programmed, using the Windows XP® Operating System, for intervals of 60 seconds decompression followed by 30 seconds of partial relaxation. The entire procedure with set up time is approximately 30 minutes.
4. WHAT ARE THE
INDICATED USES?
Patients with acute and chronic low back pain can benefit from IDD Therapy®. Specifically, the system provides a program of treatments for relief from pain for those patients suffering with lumbar pain. Each treatment consists of a physician prescribed treatment on the Spina System™ and is designed to provide static, intermittent, and cycling distraction forces to relieve pressures on structures that may be causing back pain. It relieves pain associated with herniated discs, protruding discs, degenerative disc disease, posterior facet syndrome, sciatica, and general low back pain.
These effects are achieved through decompression of intervertebral discs, that is, unloading due to distraction and positioning. Studies have concluded that at some time 80% of all Americans suffer from back pain making the Spina System™ a much-needed component in the treatment of those conditions.
5. IS THE SPINA SYSTEM™ TREATMENT USED AFTER SPINAL SURGERY OR CONTRA-INDICATED?
The application of the IDD Therapy® at some point following spinal surgery is NOT CONTRA-INDICATED. It has been used as a follow-up therapy for patients that continue to complain of post-surgical back pain. This “dual approach” seems to offer an advantage especially in those patients that have more than one level of herniation in which only the major segment was excised.
